BEVERLY C. MACKIN has owned and operated Belle Vista Retirement Homes, Inc. for the past 23 years, as she carries out her “mission to serve our elderly or disabled clients with love and compassion while providing for their physical and emotional needs with dignity and respect.”
Quality of Service is of utmost importance to Bev. She is a true “hands-on manager” as she develops the care plans for each of her residents, coordinates all medications and home care services, social activities, and special events. As the administrator she personally takes her residents to their primary care physicians to ensure proper communication between the health care provider and the facility staff . The residents at Belle Vista experience a very low incidence of hospitalization due to early diagnosis and intervention of medical issues.
Bev truly feels that her work is more of a ministry rather than a job. She spends time with each client to understand their concerns and fears, their desires to try new things and experience stimulating activities. For example, she set up a computer with internet access in the activity room for the residents’ use. Several people have enjoyed learning to email friends and relatives all over the country, and some order clothes and personal items online. They truly feel empowered to explore new horizons. They enjoy luncheon cruises on the intracoastal waterway, shows at the fine arts centers, and shopping experiences. As our community continues to age at home and we suffer the loss of a resident, Bev takes the residents to the funeral or creates a memorial service right there at Belle Vista. Once she hosted a wedding celebration for a resident who found a new relationship after losing her spouse of 64 years. We celebrate life together!
